Not a Standard Recovery

What’s Actually Involved

Accident recovery isn’t the same job as a standard breakdown. The vehicle’s often not in a state to be moved conventionally — it may need winching, crane-lifting, or specialist handling before it can even be loaded.

Fluid containment first

There may be fuel, oil or coolant leaks at the scene. These get contained before the vehicle’s moved — a standard safety step before anything is loaded.

When a winch isn’t enough

If a vehicle is too damaged for standard winching, our HIAB crane handles what a winch can’t.

Same industry safety standard

We assess the scene before touching anything, working to PAS 43 — the same safety standard that governs recovery operations across the industry.

All Incident Types

Whatever the Situation

Accident recovery covers incidents of all kinds — not just collisions between vehicles. These are the most common:

Collision & Rollover

Collision — single-vehicle or multi-vehicle, any severity. We recover driveable and non-driveable vehicles, fault or non-fault; on multi-vehicle scenes we work alongside emergency services and dispatch multiple trucks if needed
Rollover — vehicle on its side or roof. A crane lifts from above regardless of how the vehicle is positioned — on a rolled vehicle, the standard winch attachment points are often underneath or too damaged to take the load

Off the Road & Fire Damage

Off the road — ditch, embankment, field, hedge, or verge. Winched or crane-lifted depending on position and ground conditions; we assess before touching anything
Burnt-out vehicle — fire-damaged vehicle recovered from the scene regardless of condition

Motorway & Unsure

Motorway or high-speed road incident — priority dispatch; we load once National Highways or police have secured the scene. If you’re in a live running lane, call 999 first
Unsure if it’s safe to drive after the impact — structural, steering or suspension damage isn’t always visible. If there’s any doubt, we’ll assess at the scene and recover if needed
The Process

How It Works

On arrival, our truck positions well back from the scene, shielding the work area, before anyone approaches the vehicle. If your vehicle’s in a live running lane, the right call is for you to call 999 and stay safe — we won’t put our crew into a live lane until the police or National Highways have secured it. That’s not a delay — it’s the same safety standard the whole industry works to.

Drop-Off Options

Where Your Vehicle Goes

You’re welcome to ride along with us to wherever your vehicle’s headed — home, a garage, or our secure storage. If you need a ride from there instead, our drivers will help you sort one out. And if you need help beyond the physical recovery, our Accident Management service handles the insurance side from there.

Stay Safe

While You’re Waiting

If you’re not injured and it’s safe to do so, stay in or near the vehicle rather than approaching any damage — broken glass, fluid leaks and unstable wreckage are all real risks at an accident scene. If anyone’s hurt, or you’re in a live lane, call 999 before anything else.

Common Questions

FAQs

Can I ride along to the destination?

Yes — you can ride in the cab to wherever we’re taking the vehicle. If you need a lift home from there instead, tell the driver and we’ll help you sort one out.

Will you still recover my vehicle if the accident was my fault?

Yes — fault doesn’t affect whether we recover your vehicle from the scene. If you need help with insurers, storage or what happens next, see Accident Management.

Can you recover from a motorway after an accident?

Yes — call us as soon as you’re safe; we’re dispatched while the scene is being managed. If you’re on the hard shoulder, hazards on and stay behind the barrier. If you’re in a live running lane, call 999 first — we load once police or National Highways have made the lane safe, not before. We’ll keep you updated on our ETA while you wait — you’re not left without help.

Should I call 999 or you first?

If anyone’s injured, or you’re in a live running lane, call 999 first. Once you and anyone else are safe and the road is being managed, call us for recovery.

Where will my car go after an accident?

Usually home, a garage you choose, or our secure storage while insurance is sorted — we’ll talk through the best option when you call, before we move anything.

My car’s leaking fuel or oil after the crash — what should I do?

Stay clear of the puddle if you can — fuel and oil are slip and fire risks. Tell us what you can see when you call; on arrival we check and contain leaks before we load. Call 999 if you smell strong fuel and can’t get to safety.

Will my insurance company choose where my vehicle goes?

Not necessarily. If your insurer hasn’t instructed a recovery yet, you can choose where your vehicle is taken — home, a garage of your choice, or our secure storage while you decide what to do next. We’ll talk through the options when you call.
